December, 15th, 2009: Mayor Adrian M. Fenty announced the District reached a settlement agreement on Monday with Clear Channel regarding their four billboards at 4th Street and P Street, NW, and an additional billboard at 3rd Street and K Street, NE, and their removal will begin today.

"These billboards have been a source of frustration for the residents of the Mount Vernon neighborhood for years," Fenty said in a statement. "We are excited to see them come down today and that an agreement could be reached so quickly without unnecessary time, expense or further litigation."

Clear Channel will begin work to remove the billboards no later than December 15, 2009, and will complete their removal no later than December 21, 2009, according to terms of the agreement. Clear Channel will remove any supporting posts for the billboards no later than December 31, 2009.

"I'm thrilled weve reached this amicable settlement with Clear Channel," said Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs Director Linda Argo. "I would also like to express my gratitude for the communitys invaluable assistance in these efforts."
